Improve Punching power
If you have a powerful punch you could have an advantage over your opponent in a self defencesituation. A powerful punch can provide greater force when striking your opponent. The more powerful the punch the more pain the potential attacker is likely to feel. Here are some tips for improving your punching power.
1. Train with a heavy bag
A heavy bag is designed to train power, these bags can withstand the massive amounts of power. You can also develop your speed when using a heavy bag, as you are training your whole body. For optimal output you should aim for three rounds of three minute.
2. Punch with whole body
You should always use your whole body when punching, to get the full amount of power, and not just punching with your arms. The power comes firstly from a solid stand; balance of the legs; rotation of the hips; whip from the shoulder then finally the fist the on the target.
3. Relax your muscles
Do not tense your muscles when punching as this will slow you down, and could also cause injury depending on how hard you have hit. You should only tense your muscles at the point of impact, to give maximum power.
4. Main proper form
When punching you should always maintain proper form, you should not lock out your elbows. You arms should not be fully extended when punching.
5. Distance
You need to calibrate the most effective punching distance. A punch which is too far or too close can affect the power of the punch.
6. Combinations
Practise punching different combination of punches. Do not stand completely stationary when punching.
