4 Myths about speed training

Below i have complied a list of myths about speed training. The majority of these tips are basic common sense.

1. Speed can’t be trained

There is a popular belief that speed cannot be trained or improved. This is completely nonsense. People at any age can improve their speed by implementing a targeted training program for speed.

2. Training slow makes you go fast

Some people believe that training in a decreased motion can increase your speed. This is true in some sports like football, tennis etc, but in self defence training, this is false. Training slow when striking can increase your accuracy and maintain perfect form, but will not increase your speed.

3. The harder you train, the better the result

People believe that training until you are completely exhausted will give better results. However, training until breaking point can increase your injury rate which will forced your body to take longer to heal. Therefore you will not benefit from training harder. You need to be consistent to see the results of your training.

4. Speed training will stunt your growth

This is a myth. Even if you train with high intensity it will not stunt your growth. You do not need to worry about your growth.
